Mrs. Dolly Gallagher LeviAn indefatigable, meddling matchmaker of strikingly dramatic appearance; a widow in her middle years. Strong stage-presence. 

 

Horace Vandergelder A gruff & authoritative proprietor of a Hay & Feed store in Yonkers, New York, and a client of Dolly's. A widower of some means.

 

Ambrose KemperA young artist seeking to marry Ermengarde.

 

ErmengardeThe 17 year old niece of Horace Vandergelder, high-strung.

 

Cornelius HacklVandergelder's chief clerk, adventurous and energetic. 

 

Barnaby Tucker An assistant to Cornelius, naïve and a follower. 

 

Irene MalloyA millineress with a Hat Shop near 14th St in New York City, smart and fun-loving. Dolly has introduced her to Mr. Vandergelder. 30-35 years old.

 

Minnie Fay A young, naïve girl who works in Irene Malloy's shop.

 

Ernestina An eccentric looking girl in need of Dolly's services.

 

Mrs. Rose(Chorus) Street vendor, a friend of Dolly's from years before.

 

Rudolph Reisenweber - (Chorus) The Prussian major-domo of the Harmonia Gardens restaurant.

 

Stanley - A young waiter at Harmonia Gardens.

 

First Cook - Harmonia Gardens employee, German accent

 

Second Cook - Harmonia Gardens employee

 

Judge - (Chorus) White-whiskered, red-nosed, New York night court

 

Policeman - (Several, one speaking) New York City officers

 

Court Clerk, Recorder - (Chorus)

 

Townspeople of New York, Yonkers Band, Lodge Members, Feed Store Customers, Harmonia Gardens Customers, Harmonia Gardens Waiters & Dancers, Polka Contest Dancers, 14th St Parade Ensemble.
